Quantum Mechanics on Spaces with Finite Fundamental Group
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider in general terms dynamical systems with finite-dimensional, nonsimply connected configuration-spaces. The fundamental group is assumed to be finite. We analyze in full detail those ambiguities in the quantization procedure that arise from the non-simply connectedness of the classical configuration space. We define the quantum theory on the universal cover but restrict the algebra of observables O to the commutant of the algebra generated by deck-transformations. We apply standard superselection principles and construct the corresponding sectors. We emphasize the relevance of all sectors and not just the abelian ones. Section

The Mathematical Formalism of Quantum Mechanics
The prerequisites for Physics 221A include a full year of undergraduate quantum mechanics. In this semester we will survey that material, organize it in a more logical and coherent way than the first time you saw it, and pay special attention to fundamental principles. We will also present some new material. Physics 221B will largely consist of new material. We begin by presenting some of the m...
متن کاملGroup cohomology construction of the cohomology of moduli spaces of flat connections on 2-manifolds
We use group cohomology and the de Rham complex on simplicial manifolds to give explicit differential forms representing generators of the cohomology rings of moduli spaces of representations of fundamental groups of 2-manifolds. These generators are constructed using the de Rham representatives for the cohomology of classifying spaces BK where K is a compact Lie group; such representatives (un...
متن کاملApplications of Finsler Geometry to Speed Limits to Quantum Information Processing
We are interested in fundamental limits to computation imposed by physical constraints. In particular, the physical laws of motion constrain the speed at which a computer can transition between well-defined states. Here, we discuss speed limits in the context of quantum computing. We review some relevant parts of the theory of Finsler metrics on Lie groups and homogeneous spaces such as the spe...
متن کاملOn the Poisson Relation for Lens Spaces
Motivated by quantum mechanics and geometric optics, it is a long-standing problem whether the length spectrum of a compact Riemannian manifold can be recovered from its Laplace spectrum. One route to proving that the length spectrum depends on the Laplace spectrum is by computing the singular support of the trace of the corresponding wave group. Indeed, it is well-known that the singular suppo...
متن کاملClassifying all Mutually Unbiased Bases in Rel
Finding all the mutually unbiased bases in various dimensions is a problem of fundamental interest in quantum information theory and pure mathematics. The general problem formulated in finitedimensional Hilbert spaces is open. In the categorical approach to quantum mechanics one can find examples of categories which behave “like” the category of finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces in various ways...
